"The Cave of the Storm Nymphs" (Sir Edward Poynter, 1903)

A mythological painting by Sir Edward Poynter (1836-1919) inspired from Homer's Odyssey. Probably depicts the beautiful but evil Sirens who allured sailors with their irresistible songs and beauty, made then their vessel crashed to the rocks. In this painting, Sirens were shown in a state of ecstatic triumph for their exploit. A great painting full of motion, force and passion!

Sir Edward Poynter was famous for his romantic realism in historic and mythological paintings.
