Simon Bisley (born 4 March 1962) is a British comics artist best known for his 1990s work on ABC Warriors, Lobo and Sláine. His style, reliant on paints, acrylics, inks and multiple-mediums, is strongly influenced by Frank Frazetta, Bill Sienkiewicz, Gustav Klimt, Salvador Dalí, Egon Schiele, and Richard Corben.
He also took inspiration from rock album covers and graffiti as well as traditional comics art. In turn he and his work has inspired various forms in media, including the Beast in the 2006 Doctor Who episode "The Satan Pit", and Simon Pegg's character graphic artist Tim Bisley on the Channel 4 sitcom Spaced.
He designed many album covers like:
Lost Tracks of Danzig (2007), by Danzig
Among Flies (2008), by Last House on The Left
6:66 Satan's Child (1999), by Danzig
Thrall: Demonsweatlive (1993), by Danzig
Mayhemic Destruction (1987), by Mortal Sin
I present some of his illustrations inspired from Milton's Paradise Lost. You can see all the collection in his SITE:
Carlos Barberena is a Nicaraguan artist. His most interesting works are of social and environmental concern, those that are inspired from Day of the Dead and Classic paintings or engravings stongly critisizing multinational companies, like Monstanto, Mc Donalds, Wall Street and generally the invasive capitalist policies and the social resistance towards them. Visit his SITE and Flickr for more of his work.
Laurent Fièvre is a contemporary artist from France. Macabre and melancholia seems to be the characteristic style of his figures. Visit his facebook and his Blog for more ofhis work.
Graphics that depict dark aspects of history—such as violence, intolerance, racism, aggressive nationalism, war and atrocity, abuse of others and of the environment in general—have not been censored. We must confront such harsh images directly—and struggle to critically understand them—if we hope to ever make a better world. ocw.mit.edu
